Hybrid Storage

Hybrid storage is a combination of private storage, which is typically local and public storage, which is typically remote. Organizations can tier data from their MonadCloud cluster to AWS S3 or Glacier, Google Coldline or a remote S3-compatible storage cluster.

Hybrid storage using MonadCloud storage clusters locally and AWS S3 or Glacier remotely has a number of advantages.

  • Tiering... MonadCloud storage clusters allow you to tier data from your local cluster on a policy basis to AWS S3, Glacier, Google Coldline or Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. This means you can avoid the capex of adding additional storage server nodes to your MonadCloud cluster by tiering older or "cold" data to AWS Glacier, Google Coldline or Microsoft Azure Blob Storage for archiving.

  • Economy... MonadCloud storage clusters have one of the lowest Total Cost of Ownership in the storage industry. Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google have consistently been two of the lowest cost and largest public providers of data storage services. What this means is you have the choice of storing data on your local MonadCloud storage cluster at a very low cost and archiving some of it in AWS S3, Glacier or Google Coldline where it will be equally low cost, but remote to your organization.

  • Deep Storage... MonadCloud storage clusters are well-suited for storing all types of unstructured data. However, if you have significant amounts of data to archive for long term storage and you have a low expectation of ever needing to access it, then deep storing it in AWS Glacier or Google Coldline may be one of your lowest cost alternatives. The data you archive to AWS Glacier or Google Coldline can be returned to your MonadCloud cluster when you need it.
